Holiday Inn Berlin International Airport - Restaurant Sky

Whilst away on business recently I stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Berlin Airport. I thought it would be within walking distance to the airport but it is not. A shuttle bus is necessary (leaves twice an hour). My room was pleasant, clean and comfortable as well as reasonable value but I could not get the a/c to work and it was too hot in the night so I opened the window. I had dinner in the restaurant as there is nowhere within walking distance nearby to eat. The menu was promising but the food was very average and the service appallingly slow. I could not get the free Wi-Fi in the room to work. The vending machine ran out of bottled water and I had to buy a small bottle for a staggering Euro3.50 from reception. They had put two free wafer biscuits in the room compliments of the manager. I would have preferred some free mineral water!

Staying around the corner from the airport we checked out TripAdvisor for somewhere close by to eat. Up popped the Ristorante La Merita. We struggled for parking close by so we left it on the main road. Arrived to find a few people in for a Sunday evening. Nine of us sat down to eat. The chap on duty was a good laugh and also sorted food very quickly. Food was of great quality but just a word of warning for any one thinking of having the antipasti per due. We thought it might be meat based maybe with some artichokes olives etc. Plate arrived and was a selection of pasta/s with different sauces. Wasn&#39;t what we thought but it was still tasty and enjoyable. We had a mix of pizzas, pasta and salad dishes for our mains and the quality and taste of the food was great. Would agree with other reviewers with regards to flies/insects inside. It was a bit off putting when seeing them on he ceiling but thankfully didn&#39;t detract from the meal. Would be useful to try and control the little blighters though.

we passed this place and saw the baker kneeding the dough then saw some of the products we both said lets get one we both picked the cheese and bacon hot roll at &euro;4.50 each they were very good and filling this is the first airport we have seen real fresh food being served they were queing all the time but were served quickly we ate outside the place as we had lots of luggage and did not want to drag it all in
